Week 9 Thing 23 - Summary

Before I started 23 thing, I felt I knew much about the web and how to locate information and what was out there. Duh, what was I thinking. I was overwhelmed and somewhat frustrated by some of the sites. My brain is crammed with so much information. I am drawn to the photo sites like flicker and picassa but the podcasts were boring to me.

I always thought I was climbing up the hill with technology, but now I know I'm sliding down the hill backwards. So, it's time to get back up on my feet and keep learning. This learning activity was a real eye opener!!

Podcast really isn't my thing. I don't find myself using the sound broadcast. I'd rather see the visuals.

I have downloaded from our own site, Overdrive years ago. I looked at the site and will probably use it again if and when I receive the mp3 player.

Thing 18 Google Docs
I liked the google documents. I thought is was useful. I've created a spreadsheet and entered information and it worked very well. I think this is a tool that I would use again.

Thing 19 Web 2.0 Awards
Picasa - I enjoy sites related to digital photography so I opened a Picasa account. I found it very easy to use. Sharing photos was easy. I love the screen saver with the wheel of photos in chronological order. Editing photo's was also simple.

Week 7 - Thing 16 & 17- Wiki & Sandbox

Wiki - is a great communication tool for teams and staff. We have been using Wiki's at CCPL for many years. What we have used chocolate to bribe our staff to use to post on the wiki. Anyone who wants to add to or edit topics on the wiki can do it.

I like the book lovers wiki. Very easy to use!

I thought del.icio.us tool bar was really cool. I opened an account and saved favorites. I liked this tool.

I was facinated by the web 2.0. Librarians are learning so much. I feel like i'm being left behind as the our resources speed ahead.

Sunset Island - Ocean City

This photo was taken on 2005. I located it
on Flicker. Finding the photo was pretty cool. It was very easy to locate.

The community is only partially
finished and just waiting for Ronnie and I to come along and fall in love with this place. If you look at the center of the photo, our new condo will be built on the lot horizontal with the fountain and reflective pool. It will be completed in November. I love Summer! I love the Beach! Can't wait!

I thought I would use the Ask Me Now site to ask a question about Disney World. This is my first grandchild. His name is Charlie and we're going to Disney World... when he is three. He is 20 months old. I asked the online librarian when would be the lease crowded time to vacation in the park. I was told that January, September and October. Also, the best days would be Tuesdays, Fridays, and Sundays. How about that. Just what I needed to know. Along with this information they gave me some great websites. One was www.mousesavers.com. I had never used Ask Me Now before, but now I'm hooked. I found it also very interesting that you could ask a question in spanish. I loved the windows that displayed the website where the information was found while you were chatting. I also sent an email question to our contact us site. Awaiting a response.

I am the page supervisor at WEC. Currently, we have 45 staff members at the Westminster Branch. I know all the staff at the branch, as I have been on staff for over 15 years. They are a great group of people!!

Week 1 Thing 1&2 7 1/2 Lifelong Learning Habits

I've read all about 23 things and I think i will enjoy the process. I hope with summer vacations I will be able to complete the 23 things.
I feel that my most difficult habit is viewing problems as challenges. Life brings so many problems that I can get bogged down with the negativity. Resolving these problems cuts into my Playtime which is my favorite learning habit.
